Share Trends: Algorithmic Market Sentiment
This page delivers objective, weekly trend data for a list of indices, ETFs, and popular stocks listed on the ASX. This algorithmic analysis helps filter market noise, allowing you to focus on momentum and make data-driven investment decisions.
The trend signals are generally updated every Friday.
Understanding the Trend Methodology
The trend status is calculated using a strict, quantitative methodology:
- First, the Standard Deviation of the closing price over the previous 52 weeks is calculated. (e.g., if the trend is calculated on a Friday, the standard deviation uses the last 52 Fridays' closing prices. Data from the previous trading day will be used if a Friday closing price is unavailable).
- If the closing price is greater than the 200-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) plus one Standard Deviation, the trend is classified as Bullish.
- If the closing price is within one Standard Deviation of the 200-day SMA, the trend is classified as Neutral.
- If the closing price is less than the 200-day SMA minus one Standard Deviation, the trend is classified as Bearish.
